Try the sandbox

source=sandbox returns three fictional businesses: Harbor Plumbing LLC, Gulf Electric LLC, and Bay Air LLC. They are not real licensees. The demo key is sensus_demo_sandbox. Send it as x-pilot-key or Authorization: Bearer. It cannot read Florida, California, Illinois, Oregon, Connecticut, Iowa, Delaware business, professional, or child care licenses, Minnesota, Florida CPA firms, Connecticut child care or auto repair, Colorado child care, California child care centers, SAM.gov, the NPI organization store, the SEC company list, or the SEC adviser-firm store.

License stores

?source=fl is the default. ca, il, or, ct, ia, de, de-dpr, mn, fl-cpa, fl-arch, ct-child, ct-auto, co-child, de-child, ca-child, us-sam, us-npi, us-edgar, and us-ria are the other stores. us-npi is pending and not loaded yet: the CMS NPPES file is down for maintenance. or is Oregon Building Codes Division businesses. ct is Connecticut eLicense businesses. ia is Iowa construction businesses under CC BY 4.0. de is Delaware business licenses in the public domain. de-dpr is Delaware professional and occupational businesses in the public domain. mn is Minnesota DLI construction businesses in the public domain. fl-cpa is Florida CPA firms. fl-arch is Florida architecture and landscape-architecture businesses. ct-child, de-child, co-child, and ca-child are child care facilities. ca-child is California child care centers under CC BY. ct-auto is Connecticut auto repairers. Individual names are not in those stores. us-npi is healthcare organizations from the CMS NPI file. An NPI is not a license, and individual providers are not in that store. us-edgar is SEC company names from the EDGAR company ticker list. A CIK is not a license. us-ria is SEC-registered investment adviser firms. An adviser registration is not a state license. Attribute the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. serviceCategory is mapped from the license type. The demo of verification and the changes feed is on /developers. GET /v1/verify is public and rate limited. Search and changes need a pilot key issued by Sensus. There is no self-serve signup. The OpenAPI document is GET /v1/openapi.json. The MCP endpoint is https://sensus.so/v1/mcp.

What a response contains

• GET /v1/businesses searches trade names. category filters the service category. A street may be used to match and is not returned.
• GET /v1/businesses/:id reads one business.
• GET /v1/businesses/:id/proof is a display payload. A copied badge is not a current certification.
• GET /v1/verify matches one business and needs no key. A miss is HTTP 200 with match none. Omit source and pass state to search every store for that state plus the national stores. With neither, the search stays on fl.
• GET /v1/changes is the latest diff, or the snapshots after since.
• GET /v1/coverage is counts and freshness. It does not list businesses.
• GET /v1/usage is the calling key's request count on this API process.
• GET /v1/export?source=sandbox is the fixture as NDJSON. License-store export is file-delivered.
• GET /v1/evidence/keys and POST /v1/evidence/verify check a signed receipt. They do not take the private key.
• GET /v1/connectors lists assistant platforms only after a reviewed test names the workflow and date. The list is empty until then. Automatic distribution is not offered.
• GET /v1/operational-evidence describes service-quality rates. It publishes no score from this route. Subscription status is not an input.
• GET /v1/demand-gaps counts consented rejection reasons only. It has no customer identity, price, or missed-revenue figure.
• GET /v1/portfolio is the agency grant contract. A grant can read or propose for one entity. It cannot publish. No operators are loaded.

Freshness

builtAt is when the store was built. responseGeneratedAt is when this response was generated. freshness is within_cadence, past_cadence, or unknown. Weekly means 7 days and monthly means 31. Usage counts reset when the process restarts. They are not an invoice. Each key also has a process-local quota, 1000 requests unless the server sets SENSUS_PILOT_QUOTA. Over the quota the API returns 429. Responses send X-Sensus-Contract-Version: 1.

What is withheld

The API does not return street addresses, personal names, phone numbers, email addresses, or contact persons. A query that is only a personal name is rejected. Non-Florida sources and the sandbox return businesses only. Google Places, NMLS, Sunbiz, and Florida DOH rows are not served.
